    • Step 2: What is an Elevator Pitch?

      An elevator pitch is a short, focused presentation—something you could deliver in 30–60 seconds.

      It should be: Clear, Structured, and Confident.

      Example:

      “The global shift toward green bonds is creating new opportunities for sustainable investment

      portfolios. As governments push for decarbonization, investors are reallocating funds to

      environmentally friendly assets. This trend could redefine risk-return expectations for traditional

      fixed-income markets.”

    • "How to Speak" by Patrick Winston (MIT Open Course Ware)

      Patrick Winston's How to Speak talk has been an MIT tradition for over 40 years. Offered every January usually to overflow crowds, the talk is intended to improve your speaking ability in critical situations by teaching you a few heuristic rules.  The lecture was uploaded onto YouTube as part of the MITOpenCourseWare series and has over 20 million views and over 5 million subscribers.  We will watch the video of his lecture.  While watching, you can use the notes below to follow.  After watching we will discuss the strengths and weakness of this approach to public speaking.

    • I am providing mutiple links to professional presentations from hedge fund managers and bankers to familiarize you with clear presentation style in the finance industry.   We will explore these presentations during the series of Presentation Skills Workshops.

      In preparation for your presentations this semester, please look through the material on presentations at the end of the script.  The Unit "Getting Started" will provide you with some key language frames that you can use in your presentation for Introducing Yourself, Stating Your Purpose, Opening Your Presentation, and Signposting.  The Unit "Exploiting Visuals" will provide you with some key language for Introducing Your Visuals, Commenting on Them, Discussing Change and Development, and Analyzing Case, Effect and Purpose. 


    • In-Class Presentation

      Group Work: 2-4 students per group.

      Prepare a presentation to investors to encourage them to invest in your master plan community (MPC).  Use the EduPads below for creating the slides you will show to class after a 30-45 Minute preparation period.  Cover the features that make the MPC an attractive long-term investment opportunity

      Below are four (1 - 4) different IF student presentations slide shows from past semesters when the general project work topic was "financial crises."  In-class students will be assigned to a group that discusses one of the PP slide shows from one former student group.  Work in a group together to list out all of the strengths and weaknesses of these slide shows.  After you construct a list of these strengths and weaknesses assign a grade (1,0 to 5,0) for the slide shows.  Each group will present their results to the class after a discussion period of 45 minutes or so.   EduPads are provided for you to use as a collaboration tool.

    • This upload platform is provided for your convenience to store you're visuals (PP slides, etc.) on a reliable cloud storage center for quick downloading in the classroom when you give your presentation.

      Here you can sign-up for a day to give your Presentation for ""English for Presentations".  Three days, Jan 13, Jan 20, and Jan 27 are available as days on which you can give a presentations between 8.15-11:30 using the classroom technology.    Presentations should be a development of your writing assignment and no longer than 20 Minutes per perso (minimum speaking time of 10 Minutes).  There will be questions and a short discussion after each presentation, if possible.  If you are a group, please sign in all of the members of the group on the same day that you give this presentation, ie. all member names should appear on the same day.  Given time constraints, a maximum of 12 people can sign up each session for presentations.  The sequence of presentations during the session is first-to-volunteer goes first, second, second.  A sequence will be set up on the day of the presentation by the moderator based on voluntary requests.
