This course develops the English skills you will need to work, communicate and think critically in the international aviation industry. Instead of only learning business vocabulary, we will use English to explore current issues at the intersection of aviation and the global economy.
Throughout the semester, we will work with authentic and up-to-date material such as news articles, industry reports, economic data, interviews and talks. Possible themes include sustainability and the push toward greener aviation, technological change and the role of AI, shifting patterns of global travel and trade, labour markets and the future of work, and the economic impact of geopolitical events. The final selection of topics will reflect what is happening in the industry this year.
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
- read and analyse industry and economic texts and data, and discuss them confidently in English;
- present information and arguments clearly and persuasively, both individually and in teams;
- give and respond to feedback in a constructive, diplomatic way;
- write clear, well-structured professional texts.
In order to successfully complete the module, you must fulfil the following requirements:
- a minimum attendance of 75%, which entails active participation in class,
- a 90-minute written test at a B2-level (70% of the grade),
- a presentation (in pairs) comparing two companies (min. 10 minutes / max. 15 minutes) (30% of the grade)
I look forward to meeting you all on October 20th!
