Flashcards are a great way to test your knowledge when you are out and about. For example, you could take them out on a train journey or when you have a 10-minute break between lectures.

You can style them as you want. A common way is to have the English word on one side and the translation on the other side, such as in German. You could test yourself by looking at the English words and thinking how to say it in German, or you could make it more challenging and look at the German and try to think about how to say it in English.

You can add extra information that make the word tricky. For example, you could write down the conjugated forms if it is an irregular verb, or you could write down the plural of a noun if it is irregular. You could also include an example sentence or a definition. Do whatever makes the most sense to you.
