B5.1E Design - Return to Chañarcillo
The Chañarcillo Mine, located in the Atacama Desert of Chile, was once one of the richest silver mining sites in the world. Although the mining town has since disappeared, its historical significance and cultural heritage remain vital to the national identity. This course invites students to design a visitor center for a memorial (currently nonexistent) dedicated to the legacy of the Chanarcillo Mine. The project requires a sensitive approach that respects the site’s history, its mining heritage, and the potential value this memorial could contribute to the country.
