Molkenschule
This studio will develop a school. However, schools have developed into multifaceted institutions offering highly different environments of education with vastly different characters, schedules and specialisations. Given its central and urbanistically exposed location the building will have to balance such exposure and concentration, noise and quiet, openness and closure.
On the one hand, our school is to be fit to encompass the standard Berlin curriculum (Rahmenlehrplan). On the other, it is also supposed to develop a specific profile – musical, multi-lingual, humanistic (traditional), sportive, or otherwise– and develop spatial anomalies accordingly. This profile shall be identified by each participant individually, thus equipping the school with the necessary DNA to become another valuable addition to Berlins already varied educational landscape. The goal is a functional building that is recognisable and identifiable at the same time.
The ambition fort he entire Molkenmarkt is to become a lively neighbourhood at all times of day. The school’s schedule might therefore become equally stretched out, bleeding into evening or even weekends, becoming (partly) a school for the entire neighbourhood, not just it’s children.
