General Guidelines for Accessibility in Videos and Video Conferences
Regardless of which video conferencing or video platform you use, there are several important aspects to consider: -
Accessibility Features in MS Teams
- PowerPoint Live mode: You can use PowerPoint's Live Mode, which allows students to navigate through slides independently, translate text, and view slides in high contrast.
- Magnifying screen content: Participants can enlarge the shared screen using the magnifying feature. You can guide students on how to do this.
- Noise surpression: You can improve audio quality by enabling “Noise Suppression” in the audio settings to reduce background noise.
- Live Captions: Teams offers live captions that you can enable during sessions. You can also set them to appear automatically and adjust their size, color, and position.
- Recording: You can record your sessions and create transcripts afterward using Microsoft Stream or Panopto, depending on where your recordings are saved.
-
Accessibility Features in Panopto
- Captions: You can enable automatic caption generation for your videos and adjust the language settings as needed. Although automatic captions are generally accurate, it’s important to review and edit them in Panopto to ensure they are correct.
- Alternative materials: To complement the video, you can offer alternative materials, such as subtitle files or transcripts, which can be downloaded from Panopto.
- Chapter funtion: With Panopto, you can add chapters to longer videos, making it easier for all learners to navigate the content.
- Playback and caption control: The Panopto player allows viewers to adjust the playback speed and customize the captions, including the size, color, and position. Viewers can also control which elements are visible on screen to tailor their viewing experience.
