Course description
Every day we make important decisions without a lot of information.
In this class we don't call these decisions gambles, at least not all the time. We call them strategies. The profis call them judgemental heuristics. We begin by selecting a topic and asking questions about it. Donald Trump comes to mind for some reason. Does Trump like KFC better than McDonalds? Answers may be easy to find, especially today with the internet at our fingertips. We may agree quickly that we know the answer. When there are multiple conflicting opinions, when there is a greater degree of uncertainty, then the proper way forward is with critical thinking.
To think critically we carefully apply strategies and watch for cognitive bias. We use the AQTC Worksheet to select topics and generate critical thought. In class we discuss and debate the accuracy of our answers. Each participant will be responsible for at least one topic.- Dozent/in: Paul Abbott
