The NDC Design course addresses three pressing
issues that shape the role of architecture today.
First, we will reflect on contemporary ways of living and explore how to design
collective housing as an infrastructure for diverse and affordable forms of
cohabitation.
Second, we will work through material and constructive strategies that embody
simplicity, flexibility and sustainability.
Third, we will respond to the challenge of increasing urban density in
Frankfurt by adding affordable housing, allowing low-income residents to remain
in the city while reducing the environmental footprint.
To this end, the course will focus on the design of a collective housing
project placed on top of an existing building, developed with a lightweight,
flexible and reversible construction system.
